Coffee Table Height Guide
A coffee table that's much lower than your sofa seat is awkward to reach. Here's how to check yours and fix it.
The rule of thumb
A coffee table usually looks and works best when its top is level with the sofa seat or 1 to 2 inches lower. Measure the top of your sofa cushion and the top of the table, then compare.
When to raise it
- You lean far forward to set down a drink
- You raised the sofa and now the table looks sunken
- The table came from a different set
Measure and fit
Subtract the table height from the target height to get the lift. Measure the bottom of each leg and leave about 1/4 inch of clearance. For metal or slim legs, a small, matching riser keeps the look clean.
Pick a finish
Match wood legs with a wood tone, or use metallic gold or silver for metal legs. Riserman risers are 3D printed from PLA in all of these.
Common questions
How much space should be between the sofa and coffee table?
About 14 to 18 inches is common, so you can walk through and still reach.
Can I raise a coffee table with a shelf underneath?
Yes, risers go under the legs and lift the whole table evenly.
Can I get help with sizing?
Yes. Use the chat on any page or text 860-856-3633 with a photo of the leg next to a tape measure, and we'll help you pick the right size before you order.
