Protecting Hardwood Floors with Furniture Risers

Risers spread furniture legs over a larger base, but a little care keeps your hardwood, laminate and tile looking new.

Lift, don't drag

Get a helper and lift each end of the furniture onto the risers. Dragging furniture, with or without risers, is the most common cause of scratches.

Add pads underneath

Felt pads under the risers protect finished floors and let you nudge furniture slightly. On very slick floors, rubber pads grip better and reduce sliding.

Keep it clean

Grit trapped under a riser acts like sandpaper. Sweep before placing risers and wipe their bottoms clean now and then.

Check the fit

A snug pocket, about 1/4 inch of total clearance, keeps legs from shifting and rubbing. Every few weeks, rock the furniture gently and make sure nothing has moved.

Rugs

On thick rugs, risers can sink unevenly. Make sure all legs sit on the same surface, or measure the final height with the rug in place.

Common questions

Will plastic risers scratch hardwood?

Smooth PLA risers on a clean floor are gentle, and felt pads add extra protection.

Do risers dent floors?

They spread load over a wider base than most legs. Pads add a cushion.

Can I get help with sizing?

Yes. Use the chat on any page or text 860-856-3633 with a photo of the leg next to a tape measure, and we'll help you pick the right size before you order.
